The collection of Reginald J Cheetham was amassed over 70 years, filling every nook and cranny of the Liverpool semi which he shared with his wife.  An engineer by trade, his love for collecting covered many different areas, and the resulting mass of unusual and interesting items represent a unique auction opportunity!

Over 500 guns include early flintlock pistols, rifles & muskets, with one of the star lots being lot 187.  The fine pair of Ketland & co flintlock pistols have superb silver inlay to the walnut stocks, brass furniture, detailed mask pommel and carry an estimate of £1500-£2500.

There are over 400 edged weapons including swords, bayonets, daggers & knives dating from the 17th – 20th centuries. There are many highlights in this section, but one of the more unusual daggers is lot 521.  This is a rare late 18th century long dagger with finely detailed and original blue and gilt decoration to the blade featuring a scull & crossbones and inscribed E. Gill.  The blade is also decorated with a coffin, a ram and flags, and is sure to eclipse th e £300-£500 estimate.

Reg was fascinated with scientific instruments, and where he could, his collecting in this area coincided with military history, resulting in many military issued examples in this part of the auction.  Incredibly, there are over 300 telescopes, over 300 pairs of binoculars, and numerous other communication and scientific instruments.  He was a keen historian of telecommunications, and operated ham radio, Morse code taps and army field telephones amongst others.

One of the more unusual sections of the sale are around 50 lots of lighting, mainly original domestic Angle Poise examples from the 1930’s through to Industrial and military lamps.  Good original lamps like these do not come up very often, and will certainly appeal to the mid century enthusiast.

Elsewhere in the auction we have military uniforms, helmets, clocks, books, watches, toys, walking sticks, and much more.

Viewing for the sale is on Tuesday 16th & Wednesday 17th January 2018 from 10am-8pm, with the auction taking place on Thursday 18th & Friday 19th January 2018, starting at 10am each day.
