Adam Partridge Auctioneers & Valuers has seen its fair share of fascinating items come through the doors of its four popular auction houses but very few have the Hollywood sparkle of a forthcoming lot in the December auction at the Cheshire Saleroom.
A pair of metallic silver heeled loafers made by Raphael’s of Rome and were purportedly the property of global sensation, the late Marilyn Monroe, will be going under the hammer in Macclesfield’s final auction of 2023.
As the accompanying letter which outlines the provenance explains, upon the untimely death of the tragic beauty in 1962, a large amount of Marilyn’s estate was bequeathed to her dear friend and acting coach, Lee Strasberg, later to be inherited by his wife, Anna, who worked tirelessly to preserve and protect the memory of charismatic star and her legacy.
Almost two decades later, the majority of Marilyn’s belongings were auctioned at Christie’s New York in 1999, but the silver loafers were gifted to the current owner, a close friend of the Strasbergs, and her then husband, film producer Elliot Kastner, and they have been stored safely in the Big Apple until earlier this year.
As an admirer of the work of Marilyn, Adam is delighted to be offering this lot at auction, noting: “It is unlikely that the world will ever again see as iconic a figure as Ms Monroe. Her onscreen presence, style and talent has often been imitated but never replicated and for a piece of her personal wardrobe to arrive on my rostrum is a true joy.”
